Do you need to know about the replacement-tent-pole?

All About replacement-tent-pole?

Most tent poles are manufactured from aluminum or fiberglass with aluminum the most common on top end camping tents. You can obtain replacement poles from most leading manufacturers or some generic pole suppliers.

The description of these aluminum tent poles varies from aircraft, anodized, tempered or 7000 series Easton. In the end all are very good and combine low weight with strength.

The cheap end range of poles tend to be stiffer, do not use shock cord to keep them together and are at least ¾" in diameter or larger, and therefore heavier.

Fiberglass tent poles are as light in weight or nearly as rugged and durable as aluminum poles and tend to be used on the cheaper end of the camping tent range.

What about Fibraplex Carbon Fiber Poles

The Fibraplex company specializes in making very lightweight, and very high strength carbon fiber tent poles. These are perfect replacement-tent-pole when you are slashing your carrying load and they are nearly half the weight of an aluminum pole.

The Fibrapole 292 is a .292" outside diameter carbon fiber tube that has become the Fibraplex standard for both designer and replacement tent poles. This is because it is able to match the stiffness and the required flexibility of aluminum poles. The Fibraplex replacement-tent-poles are manufactured by table rolling bundles of resin impregnated carbon fiber filament around a mandrel in layers for a 32" length tube.

When they are cured, they apply a protective gloss coat of polyurethane. The replacement-tent-poles can then be cut and connected together using the appropriate ferrules to get any required pole length.

About Tent Pole Ferrules

The ferrule is the connector that allows you to join one pole section to another. There are a variety of ferrule types, and these include both internal and external types. The Fibraplex poles use an internal ferrule that comprises a 4" smaller diameter carbon fiber section of tube.

The ferrule is then bonded inside the Fibrapole leaving 2" exposed so that it can be inserted into the next pole section. The internal ferrule is designed so that the poles can slip through the tent fabrics without snagging or catching.

About Tent Pole Tips

You can get pole tips that are compatible to most manufactured tents. The aluminum straight tips are the most common to be found amongst pocketed tents. Some tents require a bored Straight Tip to seat on a pin connector.

The Fibraplex Straight Tips are 1/2" in length and should be included in the overall pole length measurement calculation when ordering replacement-tent-poles.

Another very common tip style is what is known as the grommet tip, or alternatively called the Locking Tip. The Locking Tip is 3/4" in length and should not be included in the overall length measurement calculation of the replacement-tent-poles. Fibraplex pole sets use 3/32" shock cord and you can select from 1/8" and 1/16" cord.

If you are considering replacement-tent-pole think about choosing carbon fiber and save some weight
